Meeting the Transportation Needs
of Virginia
Philip A. Shucet

Abstract

Virginia's transportation system is a vital element in the state's economy, providing the safe and efficient movement of people and products throughout the Old Dominion. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is responsible for building, maintaining and operating the sate's roads, bridges and tunnels. In this seminar, VDOT Commissioner Shucet will discuss innovative initiatives underway within VDOT designed to meet the transportation needs of the Commonwealth.

Biography of Speaker

Appointed by Governor Mark Warner as Commissioner of Transportation in April 2002, Philip A. Shucet is responsible for the nation's third largest state-maintained highway network and oversees more than 10,000 employees in the Virginia Department of Transportation. Shucet is also vice-chairman of the Commonwealth Transportation Board. Before coming to VDOT, Shucet was an executive vice president of a global engineering and energy management compancy.
