CTS LTAP Hosts the 2007 Roadway
Management Conference

The 2007 Roadway Management Conference was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Charlottesville, Virginia April 2-4, 2007. Responsibility for staging this annual event rotates among the LTAP centers in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Delaware. This year's conference was hosted by Virginia LTAP.

Over 260 individuals, primarily from federal, state, and local transportation-related governmental agencies in the mid-Atlantic states were in attendance. The conference was preceded by a half-day workshop on Accessibility conducted by Dr. Ronald Eck of West Virginia University. Conference organizers assembled over 30 experts in their respective fields to make presentations at 21 technical breakout sessions. The conference program featured sessions on a wide range of topics including bridge maintenance, work zone safety, FHWA's Safe Routes to School program, context sensitive design, crumb rubber chip seals, geographic information systems, pavement management, equipment and worker safety, making brine, and disaster planning. Also, 18 private sector vendors of transportation-related products and services participated in the event as exhibitors and
conference presenters. In addition to the technical sessions ,the conference program featured an afternoon of live vendor demos and field trips in the Charlottesville area including tours of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Vehicle Research Center, the University of Virginia's Smart Travel Lab, a live bridge load test conducted by researchers from the Virginia Transportation Research Council, and a live demo of the Asphalt Zipper -- an asphalt reclamation device -- on a nearby residential street. Next year's Roadway Management Conference will be hosted by West Virginia LTAP at a site and date to be determined.
