CTS News February 18, 2004 Center for Transportation Studies Hosts
the Annual ITS Policy and Research Advisory Board
Meeting.
The Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at
the University of Virginia hosted the Annual ITS
Policy and Research Advisory Board Meeting on February
17, 2004 at the School of Engineering and Applied
Science. The meeting was attended by several distinguished
members including Phillip Shucet, the Virginia
Department of Transportation's Commissioner who
is the chairman of the Policy Advisory Board, and
Stephen Lockwood, Vice President of Parsons Brinckerhoff,
who is the chair of the Research Advisory Board.
The meeting was also comprised of several distinguished
faculty and research members from George Mason
University, Virginia Poly Technique Institute,
and University of Virginia.
Commissioner Shucet commenced the meeting by providing
an update on VDOT's latest developments. Dr. Gary
Allen, the head of VDOT's Virginia Transportation
Research Council in Charlottesville , spoke about
the latest ITS initiatives within his organization.
The directors of the Center for ITS Implementation
presented their current as well as proposed research
projects.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Brian Smith, the
Director of ITS Center at UVA, took participants
for a tour of the Center's Smart Travel Laboratory
and the Smart Travel Van.
The Center for ITS Implementation consortium is comprised
of three universities; George Mason University, Virginia
Poly Technique Institute, and University of Virginia
. All research projects involve work in the field
of Intelligent Transportation Systems. |
